This volume is a compilation of articles, book excerpts, letters and stories about George Armstrong Custer and the Seventh U.S. Cavalry during their time in the West that were featured in a Missouri publication called Winners of the West from December 1923 through January 1944. The publication's purpose was to organize the veterans of Indian wars into an association to fight for the pension concerns of the veterans and their widows, but it also gave voice to the soldiers who fought on the frontier to make it safe for pioneers to build homes and lives in the West.
