In Inside out, Trella, a scrub whose life consists of cleaning for the socially superior Uppers, finds her peaceful life disturbed when she encounters a prophet who promises a better life for her people and ends up in the middle of a rebellion. In Outside in, after leading a victorious rebellion against the Uppers, Trella is forced to continue her leadership role and must help her people face a threat from outside their cube.
